Fundus photography or ‘back of the eye imaging’ allows Bayfields Optometrists to literally make a photo timeline of your eyes. In this way they can map each of your eye’s individual life cycle and developing health.

Fundus photography is a specialized medical imaging test used to take pictures of the structures located at the back of the eye, including the retina, macula, fovea and optic disc. The retina is located at the back of the eye and is a thin tissue layer containing millions of light-sensitive nerve cells.

Fundus photography produces a series of photos that are helpful for diagnosing, documenting, and monitoring certain eye conditions including glaucoma, retinal detachment and macular degeneration.

Fundus photography is a short, painless procedure carried out in every Bayfields Eye Examination.

During the Bayfields Advanced Eye Examination, Fundus Photography will be combined with our state-of-the-art OCT (Ocular Coherence Tomography) scanner to provide our Optometrists with the most technological and accurate information about your eyes. Please feel free to discuss Fundus Photography with your Bayfields Optometrist on your next visit.
