Bayfields Advanced Eye Examination

Haut Fingerspitze OCT

In our advanced eye examination, optometrists use the OCT instrument to take a high definition, 3D scan of the eye, similar to the quality of a CT Scan. This gives them the ability to see the layers beneath the retina which otherwise cannot be seen.

This diagnostic technique is also similar to an ultrasound scan; they both employ light waves as opposed to sounds waves. This enables the OCT to create higher resolution pictures of the structural layers of the back of the eye.

By taking an OCT scan, our highly trained Optometrists are then provided with colour-coded, cross-sectional images of the retina.

These detailed images are revolutionizing early detection and treatment of eye conditions such as wet and dry age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma, retinal detachment and diabetic retinopathy.

An OCT scan is a non-invasive, painless test and is performed as part of our Bayfields Advanced Eye Examination. This is recommended for everyone over the age of 40, as it is the best way to detect problems at the macula, and to see them before they've started to affect someone's vision.

Please feel free to discuss OCT with your Bayfields Optometrist on your next visit.
