Bayfields Opticians Barnard Castle

Our family-led practice has been here since 1982, when we were Robert Mottershead Optometrists. Then in 2016 we were warmly welcomed into a new family, Bayfield Opticians.

Our thorough eye tests last around 45 minutes and include retinal photography as standard. Did you know that besides supposedly being ‘a window onto the soul’, the eye can also be an indicator of aspects of your general health? Our eye exams can pick up any problems with your eye but also with your wider health; a burst blood vessel you didn’t know about, for example, could be a sign of high blood pressure.

Minor eye conditions service
If you develop a minor but irritating problem with your eyes, we’ll be happy to take a look – and this is a free NHS service. So if your eyes suddenly feel sore or sticky, or you see flashing lights or a veil over your vision, you could be assessed and treated by us. If you need to be referred elsewhere, we can advise you.

How to find us
We’re in Market Place, just a few yards from the Butter Market. There’s free on-street parking directly opposite us; alternatively there are inexpensive car parks on Hole in the Wall and Galgate.
