Bayfields Opticians and Audiologists Pontefract

Our practice has been here in Pontefract for over 100 years, and we've spent time making sure our community has access to expert eye care and eye tests, as well as high-quality and friendly service. You’ll feel at home as soon as you walk through the door. For a start, we offer a free hot or cold drink when you arrive.

Our customers love the thoroughness of our 45-minute eye tests, and the way we explain the results in easy language. We even provide retinal photography as well as post-cataract examinations. We offer contact lenses, ZEISS lenses for glasses, plus gorgeous designer brand frames from Joules, Ted Baker, Tiffany, Christian Lacroix, Oliver Peoples, Charmant and more.

Got a sudden eye problem?

If you suddenly develop a small eye injury, flashing lights or floaters, irritated eyes, blurry vision, cysts or styes, we participate in the Pontefract Minor Eye Conditions Service (MECS). This means you can see an eye care professional as soon as possible, rather than having to wait to see your GP.

We’re really flexible

We offer FREE contact lenses trials, because we know almost everyone can wear contact lenses, whatever their age or prescription. We’ll also make your glasses even if you had your eye test elsewhere, and we’ll fit new lenses into your existing frames. And if you’ve had a mishap with your glasses, or something has just worked loose, we’ll do our best to make adjustments and repairs to them – even if you didn’t buy them here!

Proud to be part of the Pontefract community

We’re part of Club 5 (the Prince Of Wales Hospice business group), the Pontefract and Castleford ‘shop local’ group, and a local business initiative offering personalised vouchers to spend with us.

Audiology service

We can also take care of your hearing, with free hearing tests and access to high-quality hearing aids and helpful hearing care treatments which could improve your hearing.

Iwould highly recommend bayfields opticians in pontefract t...o anyone they are very professional and friendly . my own experience goes to another level started during the covid lockdown when i could not get an appointment with a doctor due to an eye problem so igot an appointment at bayfields to see ms fazila laher .after a thorough examination she tolld me it was cancer and organised an appointment at pinderfields eye clinic .pinderfields said that it was too bad for them to operate on .So started my long haul of six oprations and facial reconstruction over almost two years . I am now clear of cancer but have to wear prisms for double vision I will always be forever grateful to the optican and the staff of st james and surgeons at chapel allerton hospitals thank you all john cotton

Very pleased with the service. Staff were both friendly and... sympathetic and put you at ease. During my audiology appointment everything was explained clearly. My wife who was waiting in reception was also made to feel at home and was given a cup of tea, a welcome gesture on a cold January day.

Bayfields deliver the Low Vision service provided by WMDC an...d it is managed, in particular, by staff member Elaine Houghton, whose kindness and helpfulness is quite beyond reproach. Her knowledge of the low vision aids available is considerable and she does her best to tailor the service to individual needs. She is determined to provide the best possible support for her visually impaired clients. The rest of the staff are equally helpful and supportive. It is a pleasure to meet such committed, dedicated and professional people.
