The online hearing test will take around 5 minutes and will ask you a few simple questions followed by some audio clips designed to test your hearing. You will need a pair of headphones and to sit in a quiet location.

At the end of the test, you will be presented with your results for both ears. If the test detects any hearing loss, we recommend you contact us to book an appointment for a comprehensive Hearing Examination with one of our Audiologists so we can take a closer look.

Please be advised that the online test is not designed to replace a professional hearing test.

What Happens when you book Free Hearing Health Check with a Bayfields Audiologist?

Booking a Free Hearing Health Check is easy. You can do it online or by calling your local practice. The hearing health check appointment will take only 15 minutes of your time.

Our Audiologist will ask you some questions about your ear health and how you feel about your hearing. We’ll then use some sophisticated technology which lets us see your ear canal and eardrum in great detail - this allows us to identify any issues in your ear.

Using a series of sounds we’ll screen your hearing, which gives us an initial indication of how well you really hear. If everything looks fine, we'll probably ask you to come back again in 2 years' time.

If we identify some hearing loss we'll invite you back for an in-depth hearing examination, so we can prescribe the best hearing solution for you. This is a complimentary appointment.

Free Hearing Care Examinations

If you have been invited back for Free Hearing Care Examination, it is likely that we need to complete further tests to understand the extent of your hearing loss.
At the Hearing Care Examination we will check your medical history and talk about your lifestyle: your routines, and the contexts in which you need to hear (do you work in a noisy office? Are you mostly at home? Do you socialise a lot?)

The audiologist will use sophisticated technology to perform a check called video otoscopy, so we can both see your ear canal and ear drum on-screen.
We’ll also do a pure tone assessment (PTA) test to discover the degree of hearing loss and the cause.

Depending on your PTA hearing test results, we’ll complete some other checks – ‘speech in quiet’ and ‘speech in noise’ tests, which very few other companies offer, so we can understand exactly how your hearing loss is affecting you.

Following the detailed hearing test, our audiologist will discuss the results with you in detail and offer solutions which will work best for you and your lifestyle.

You will then have an opportunity to have the latest hearing solutions demonstrated to you, so It’s important you bring a familiar voice with you to the appointment.  You can then listen to the difference you have been missing!

Hearing solutions

By understanding how your hearing is affected in specific situations we can offer advice. For example, if you struggle to hear in loud social settings, try to sit with the wall behind you. This can help amplify the conversation you are listening to. Or try to sit in a booth, to help keep the sound around you.

If your hearing loss is more advanced, you may benefit from using a hearing aid.
