Being able to hear well makes such a difference to everyday life. That’s why all the hearing tests that we offer are FREE, so you can spot any loss in hearing as soon as possible. We can either reassure you that your ear health is fine, or we can assist you in finding a hearing solution that is right for you and your unique lifestyle.
If we discover that you need a hearing aid, or you need to change your current one, we can offer you a FREE trial of any hearing aid (even the smallest and most discreet models) for 7 days so that you can be sure that you are completely satisfied before you commit.
At Bayfields, all our hearing appointments are completed by our highly qualified HCPC-registered audiologists, or our brilliant Hearing Care Assistants. This is so that we can provide you with top-level care, provided by experienced professionals that you can count on.

Online Hearing Test

This FREE hearing test works like this:

  • The test will take around 5 minutes of your time and will ask you a few simple questions followed by some audio clips designed to test your hearing.

  • You will need a pair of headphones to complete the test.

  • We recommend sitting in quiet location whilst taking the test.

  • At the end of the test you will be presented with your results for both ears.

  • If the test detects any hearing loss, we recommend you contact us to book an appointment for a comprehensive Hearing Examination with one of our Audiologists so we can take a closer look.

  • Please be aware that the online test is not designed to replace a professional hearing test.

Hearing Health Check

If you'd prefer to have your hearing tested by one of our team members in practice we can offer you that for FREE too:

  • Make an appointment and allow 15 to 30 minutes of your time.

  • We’ll ask you some questions about your ear health and how you think your hearing is.

  • We’ll then do an otoscopy, which lets us see your ear canal and eardrum in great detail - this even allows us to identify any issues in your middle ear.

  • Then we’ll screen your hearing which gives us an initial indication of how well you really hear.

  • If everything looks fine we'll probably ask you to come back again in 2 years time.

  • If we think you have some hearing loss we'll invite you back for an in-depth hearing care examination.

Hearing Care Examination

This more thorough hearing test is also FREE:

  • Make an appointment for our Hearing Examination.

  • We’ll check your medical history.

  • We’ll also talk to you about your lifestyle – your routines, and the contexts in which you need to hear (do you work in a noisy office? Are you mostly at home? Do you socialise a lot?).

  • Then we’ll do an otoscopy, so we can both see your ear canal and ear drum on-screen.

  • We’ll also do a pure tone assessment (PTA) test to find out the degree of hearing loss and the cause.

  • Depending on your PTA results, we’ll do a couple of other checks – which most practices don’t offer, so that we can get a complete overview of your ear health. These are the ‘speech in quiet’ and ‘speech in noise’ tests.

If you need a hearing aid

If we find that you need a hearing aid, we’ll do a live demonstration to show you how the brain responds to hearing aids. Then we’ll show you which options may be available to you, including the smallest, most discreet hearing aids. We can also offer you a FREE trial of any hearing aid for 7 days.
