We are proud to announce that six of our practices have achieved Net Zero Optical Status. Congratulations to Camberley, Clitheroe, Guildford, Harrogate, Headingley, and Lightwater.

Got an old pair of specs or hearing-aid lying in the back of a drawer?

Next time you come to see us simply bring them with you and pop them in our recycling box.

Join us on our mission by recycling your contact lenses with us through our Terracycle boxes that we have in all our practices. The collected waste is sorted into metals, fibres, and plastics. Metals are melted down to be recycled, fibres are recycled or composted, and plastics are moulded into a new recycled plastic product.

We also offer two innovative glasses disposal schemes, Recycline and Chichester Lions Club.

Recycline are a zero-waste recycling company who offer spectacle recycling for the optical industry. Recycline separate the mixed plastics and metals, allowing the individual materials to be put back into the industry as a raw material rather than going to landfill, polluting the water ways, oceans, and seas, and becoming a burden to the environment.

We love to send clients glasses on to Chichester Lions Club which processes tens of thousands of recycled glasses each year. Donations are examined by a team of volunteers in the recycling workshop. Sorted pairs may then be sent for grading and distribution by Medico France in Le Havre.

Glasses are also sent directly to contacts running eye clinics in Papua New Guinea, Sri Lanka, Ghana, Nigeria and Nepal. In addition, volunteers from the ‘Unite for Sight’ charity are supplied with glasses to take with them on missions to countries across the world.

Scrap metal salvaged from broken and unsuitable glasses raises funds which support the sorting operation and enable Chichester Lions Club to give financial support to eye related projects in the UK and overseas.

Hearing aids are sent to Dr Michael Nolan formerly of the Starkey Hearing Foundation who receives donations for sorting and refurbishment. They are then sent overseas to benefit less fortunate adults & children with hearing impairments.
